The RACIAL EQUITY and the ARTS is a 90-minute session led by nationally-known speaker and teacher Janet Brown, Janet Brown & Associates.

The nonprofit arts community is at a crossroads between our belief in equity and the reality of the culture of our institutions and the demographics of our communities. Janet Brown gives an historical perspective of arts policies and practices that created inequities in the arts and provides recommendations of how predominantly white communities and organizations can move forward for positive change. The professional development series is open to Missouri arts agency leaders, board members and volunteers.  Feel free to share the link with your boards, commissions and volunteers.

Janet Brown retired as President and CEO of Grantmakers in the Arts, a national association for foundations and public agencies. Under her leadership, GIA gained recognition for its bold racial equity efforts. As Executive Director of South Dakotans for the Arts, she administered multi-state training institutes for nearly 21 years. She has extensive experience in public policy and the arts, consulting for numerous government agencies. She holds degrees in theatre and public administration and currently owns her own consulting firm.
